Observations

September 04, 2008

So far, I’ve received excellent comments from the people who got my album. People seem to enjoy it a lot. That’s really great news for me. As a creator, you’re never quite sure if your work is right or not. There’s always doubt, especially if you’ve been working on it for a long time. You don’t see it the way others do and you tend to become extremely critical about your own work.

There’s one thing that I find quite interesting with the comments I’m getting. People have their favorite tracks and it’s not always the same ones. They also mention them in groups that seem to be constant. I think it’s normal since there is a strong difference between the tracks on Emission.

These comments are helping me figure out what to do for the next album. I already have three tracks ready and I’m now trying to find what will work with them. I’m trying to determine the overall atmosphere of the album. So far, the first tracks are more ambient than Emission. The sounds are all very synthetic except for some piano on one track. I think I’ll use more pianos in this album. Maybe altered voices too. I’m looking at various possibilities and also tools that might give me more freedom, especially if I ever want to try some live performances. A few days ago, I saw someone work with some pretty nice toys and it gave me ideas. Unfortunately, hardware is hard on the wallet…. :-(

By the way, the cover for the next album is already designed! One night, I realized that the mood had changed from the original idea I had and the new one appeared so clearly in my head that I spent about 2 hours to create the art work. This new theme is what will drive the whole project.

That’s it for now. I don’t plan to work on my music until October. I’m about to move into a new apartment and I don’t have time or energy to put on anything else. But I’m listening to a lot of stuff and I’m collecting ideas. It’ll all go better when I’m settled in the new place.

First, let me thank everyone who showed up at the launch of Emission. I really appreciate your support. It was a nice listening party and I’m happy I was able to talk to everyone present.

I hope you’ll enjoy Emission and that it will be part of your ambiance for a long time.

If you haven’t got a copy of Emission already or if you want your friends to get one, here’s some really great news! My distributor, CD Baby, has worked really fast and has made the album available online this afternoon. Emission is now available online in MP3 format.

Gradually, it will be available on all major and lesser known online music stores on the Web like iTunes, Amazon, and others. But if you want to discover tons of independent musicians, CD Baby is the place to go.

Great news!

August 02, 2008

I’m really excited with the latest development regarding Emission. I received my master yesterday and it’s good. This means I’m going ahead with the release of the album.

As a first step, I have activated the mp3 player on the Delayed Echoes page on this site so you can hear 2 minutes samples of each track from the album. I’ll open the Facebook page soon with the same samples. I’ll post the link as soon as it’s ready.

Then, I’ll have to get some CDs made for the launch which should take place Saturday August 23rd from 8 to 10pm at Bar Passeport. I’ll post the details as soon as it’s confirmed.
