I’m almost done with the mixing and mastering of the album. I’m close to the point where I won’t be able to listen to it. But not really. In fact, I play the whole album in loop while I’m working on other stuff and there’s pretty much nothing that bothers me anymore. To me, that’s a very good sign, especially for ambient music. Sometimes, I suddenly realize it’s been looping two or three times without me noticing it. I don’t think I can make it much better now.
So i have to face once again my main problem which is how will it be released. MP3 distribution is a must. That’s solved. CDs? Not so sure. Will there be an official launch party? With or without CDs? Do I keep everything in cyberspace? I’ll try to figure it out quickly. If you have suggestions, please, don’t be shy!

This has to be the explanation. There’s one track in my album that is a true PITA. I’ve been remixing this bitch many times and it just won’t come out right. AAAARGH!!! I’ll reset everything and start my mix from scratch using a different method (thanks Yves for the advice).
There’s another one that’s having problems but it’s going to be easy to fix. I just went a bit over the top and I just have to be more gentle with it.
Oh! And just to make me look like an idiot, a few hours after writing my previous post about releasing only on mp3, I found a company that has a sweet deal on small run CD duplication, printing and everything. So I’m back to wondering what I’ll do. Meh!

Things are going pretty well with Delayed Echoes’ first album. I’ve been remixing and remastering all week and it’s getting close to what it should be. Huge improvement compared to what I had a week ago.
I finally decided to release my album only in mp3 format. I’ll use cdbaby.com as the distributor and main online store. The service seems excellent and the conditions are hard to beat. CDs are way too expensive to produce for this kind of project and mp3 sales are on the rise big time.
As soon as my audio work is done, I’ll post some samples on the Delayed Echoes page. I’ll also work on the new Facebook page and the MySpace page (if anyone still goes there).
That’s it for now.

For those of you who are keeping an eye on my musical project, things are looking good!
I recently asked a few friends who are DJs or musicians to listen to the material that will be Delayed Echoes’ first album. Comments are starting to come in and so far, they are very good. No major problems to report. A little tweak here and there. I’m going through every track to see if there’s something I could do better. I’m also remastering each track to make everything sound great.
I’m also taking time to consider how I will release this album. Right now, I’m considering every possibility. It could be on CD or on USB key, depending on the cost. It could also be distributed online only but I know many people enjoy having a tangible product in their hands. As for distribution, I’m looking at various possibilities that exclude signing with a record label. I want to do this independently. A friend who has a bit of experience in this strongly recommended going independent. The style of music I do doesn’t fit well with the archaic business models of the majors.
There will be an official launch for sure. It’ll most probably be a little party and should take place at Bar Passeport. It’s my favorite joint (and I work there!) and it should be reopened by the time I’m ready to do this. Better be!

Something quite strange is going on with my blog. My stats are going up like a rocket. Not that it is unpleasant but I really need to know what’s going on because it’s bit strange…
For the last 5 years or so, my daily average has been between 40 and 100 visitors. Since the beginning of March, the average is around 258 with a ridiculous peak yesterday at 1628!!! I’m looking at my logs and I can’t see where all this traffic is coming from. Besides one suspicious IP from China which I have blocked, I can’t see anything special.
So, I’m asking you… Please tell me where you’re coming from, what brings you here and whatever my shed some light on this very intriguing situation. Use the comments or send me an email.
Thank you.
